Future Rakiura along with our co-hosts Stewart Island Promotions Association and the Stewart Island/Rakiura Community Board pulled off another interesting and informative night out for our community.

The annual Community Meeting is becoming something of an anticipated tradition. A relaxed atmosphere, an open invite and an opportunity for all to stay abreast provides an excellent platform for building and retaining community connection.

In an increasingly polarised world it’s more important than ever to create space for respectful discussion and debate. Community cohesion is something we might not always think about yet it is vital for building a bright and sustainable future.

It was a fun night and not without a couple of technology fails to generate a laugh or two. One of our VIP guests ended up briefly presenting in a high pitched squeaky voice after the “special effects” button was accidentally pressed on one of the microphones. A rather embarrassing position to be in as hosts. The experience has definitely increased the priority we’re placing on our video conferencing and presentation technology upgrade project.

Future Rakiura are proud to play our small part in doing something positive for our island community. We look forward to seeing everyone next year.
